What is nail fungus?
Nail fungus is a common condition that begins as a white or yellow spot under the tip of your fingernail or toenail. As the infection grows deeper, nail fungus may cause your nail to discolor, thicken and crumble at the edge that can affect numerous nails. Very severe nail fungus can cause painful separation of the nail from the nailbed and be foul-smelling.
How do you catch nail fungus?
Many people can pick up the fungus when they have skin-to-skin contact with someone who has a fungal infection, like athlete’s foot or ringworm. Other common ways that you can get a nail infection is by walking barefoot in a warm, moist area like a pool area or locker room.
Treatments
Treatments for nail fungus include oral antifungal drugs, medicated polish, and or cream or even nail removal.
